Kundan Malik Named Student Doctor of the Year
Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine – California (TUCOM-CA) student Kundan Malik was named student doctor of the year. An immigrant from Pakistan at age 11, Malik overcame numerous language and cultural barriers on her way to becoming one of TUCOM-CA’s top students.
Throughout her time in medical school, Kundan has demonstrated ability, grace under pressure and care for others far above what is expected from a student leader. Her work in improving lives at TUCOM-CA and in the wider community are an inspiration and embody the spirit of service which drives the pursuit of helping those who need it most. NBOME President to Visit PCOM Georgia and South Georgia
On Thursday, January 12, 2023, John R. Gimpel, DO, MEd, president and CEO of the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners (NBOME), will visit the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine Georgia (PCOM Georgia) to discuss recent developments at the organization, including the final report of the Special Commission on Osteopathic Medical Licensure, the Comprehensive Osteopathic Medical Licensing Examination (COMLEX-USA) Level 1 score report's transition to pass/fail and continuing advocacy initiatives for DO students.
In addition, a lunch and learn opportunity with Dr. Gimpel will be provided for students. Dr. Gimpel will then travel to PCOM South Georgia where he will also meet with students. PCOM Hosts SAMOPS Military Symposium
On Friday, December 9, 2022, PCOM’s Student Association of Military Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons (SAMOPS) hosted its annual Military Symposium on the Philadelphia campus. Osteopathic medical students from across the country attended the event, as well as military recruiters and military physicians. The day included breakout sessions for students with their respective branches, combat simulations for student participation and military dignitaries who spoke at the event. Most notably, Captain Sean Conley, DO ’06, who served as the physician to the White House from 2016-2020, addressed the crowd. Read more about the event and additional speakers.
UNTHSC/TCOM Military Match Students Find Out Their Residency Homes
Members of the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth - Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine (UNTHSC/TCOM)’s Class of 2023 who are part of the United States Armed Forces received their new assignments, as their Military Matches were revealed. Those students discovered where they will spend their residency upon graduation. Five members of UNTHSC/TCOM’s Class of 2023 matched, with specialties ranging from family medicine to anesthesiology.
“I have quite a few family members that have served,” said TCOM student Emma Kiefer, a 2015 graduate of the United States Air Force Academy. “My paternal grandfather was an Army staff sergeant who served in World War II, and my maternal grandfather was an Army Air Core major. National Rural Health Day: OU-HCOM Student Profile
For National Rural Health Day, fourth-year Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine (OU-HCOM) student Kasey Roush took first-year student Suzanne Chaar on a drive to one of her favorite spots in the Athens, Ohio area. Along the way, she talked about what it was like growing up in rural Southeast Ohio and why she wants to stay in the region to practice medicine. Watch the video.
