WVSOM Faculty Member Jill Cochran, PhD, Recognized in Health Care Hall of Fame

Jill Cochran, PhD, a nurse practitioner and member of West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine (WVSOM)’s clinical sciences faculty who has taught pediatrics at the school since 2010, was inducted into the West Virginia Executive magazine Health Care Hall of Fame on February 27, 2024, in Charleston, WV.

“I feel honored and privileged to be thought of, let alone be a recipient of this award,” she said. “At my age, and having 40-something years’ experience in healthcare, this is probably one of the coolest things I’ve received. Especially being a nurse, because sometimes our work is not recognized since there are so many layers above and below us. To be picked from those layers is validating that your career has been worthwhile.” Read more about Dr. Cochran’s storied career and work at WVSOM.

KCUCOM student provides foot examination

On a frigid Saturday morning, equipped with a collapsible bucket for water, an array of ointments and bandages and new pairs of shoes and socks, KCU-COM Student-Run Clinic volunteers hosted their second FreshStep clinic within a year for people experiencing homelessness in Kansas City.

Designed and implemented by members of KCU’s Student-Run Clinic, FreshStep serves the houseless community by offering free foot cleanings and exams along with the gift of new socks and shoes, plus snacks and juice. Medical students wash the feet of those who stop in, examine their feet and provide education explaining how taking care of feet can benefit the rest of the body.
