Cains Corner Inside OME

As Match Week approaches, you stand at a defining moment in your journey to becoming a doctor of osteopathic medicine. The path to this point has required perseverance, sacrifice and an extraordinary commitment to service.

Whatever your Match outcome, remember this: you have already demonstrated the qualities that define an osteopathic physician—resilience, compassion and dedication to your patients and communities. Those attributes are not determined by a single email or envelope. They are embedded in who you are and how you practice medicine.

You chose osteopathic medicine because you believe in caring for the whole person, body, mind and spirit. You chose a profession rooted in empathy, partnership, prevention and the understanding that healing extends beyond treating disease. That mission has guided you through long hours of study, clinical rotations, board exams and countless moments of growth.

Each year, I am inspired by our graduating classes. Osteopathic medical students match in record numbers, with many of you entering primary care, rural practice and serving underserved communities. You carry forward a profession founded on the belief that healthcare should be accessible, patient-centered and rooted in community. At a time when our nation faces physician shortages and widening healthcare disparities, your training and philosophy of care are more essential than ever.

AACOM remains steadfast in our mission to support your success. We advocate for fairness and equity in the residency selection process, work to strengthen graduate medical education opportunities and champion recognition of the unique value DOs bring.

As you enter this next chapter, you are joining a proud and growing community of osteopathic physicians committed to improving health, advancing access and serving where you are needed most.

We encourage you to visit the AACOM Match Resource Center for tools and guidance as you navigate Match Week. And regardless of the outcome, take time to reflect on how far you have come and the countless lives you will touch in the years ahead.

On behalf of AACOM and the colleges of osteopathic medicine, congratulations. We are proud of you, we believe in you and we look forward to the extraordinary physicians you will become.
