Income/Expense Osteopathic Medical Colleges Research Reports Trends
For fiscal year (FY)2023 (July
1, 2022 – June 30, 2023), 52 private and 13 public colleges of osteopathic
medicine (COMs) reported data for AACOM’s 2024-25 Annual Osteopathic Medical
School Questionnaire (Annual Survey). Private COMs reported $350.33M in
excess revenues, while public COMs reported $77.19M. Compared to FY2022,
private COMs experienced a $106.04M (43.4%) increase, and public COMs an
increase of $21.82M (39.4%).
The gap between private and public COMs increased from $188.92M in
FY2022 to $273.14M in FY2023. Among private COMs, 27 reported an increase since
FY2022. Out of the 27 private COMs that reported an increase, 21 reported a
higher surplus, 3 reported an increase but are still in the negative, and 3
previously in the negative for FY2022 reported a significant surplus for FY2023.
Seventeen private COMs reported a decrease since FY2022. Out of the 17
private COMs that reported a decrease, 10 have maintained a surplus, 4 that
reported a surplus for FY2022 are now in the negative, 2 have gone further into
the negative since FY2022, and 1 reported a lower surplus but broke even.
Compared to FY2022, 8 public COMs reported an increase while 3 reported
a decrease. Out of the 8 public COMs that reported an increase, 3
reported a higher surplus, 4 previously in the negative for FY2022 now have a
surplus, and 1 reported an increase but is still in the negative. The 3 COMs
that reported a decrease have maintained a surplus for FY2023.
