UME-GME Digital Resource Library Now Available

Background

The UME-GME Digital Resource Library is a digital repository of resources for undergraduate medical education (UME) and graduate medical education (GME) developed by the Faculty Development for Programs with Osteopathic Recognition Working Group of the AACOM UME-GME Continuum Initiative. The UME-GME Digital Resource Library serves as a comprehensive library of resources and events that focus on faculty development in GME programs, specifically programs with or seeking Osteopathic Recognition. The library is relevant to a broad audience, including GME program administrators and faculty, practicing physicians, residents and fellows, medical students, researchers, and other health care professionals.

The library includes resources of a variety of format types, including on-demand webinars, online courses and workshops, upcoming events and conferences, instructional videos on osteopathic manipulative treatment techniques, textbooks and reports, and more, all of which are searchable through the user-friendly search interface of the UME-GME Digital Resource Library. The search interface allows resources to be filtered and sorted several ways, including by format type, subject, keyword, location, cost, and target audience.

AACOM is continuously seeking to add resources to the UME-GME Digital Resource Library. Members of the UME and GME communities are invited and encouraged to contribute to the resource library by submitting resources, events, and other content to the library via the Submit a Resource portal. All resources submitted to the library will be reviewed by an editorial board, currently in formation, led by the Assembly of Osteopathic Graduate Medical Educators (AOGME).

Faculty Development for Programs with Osteopathic Recognition Working Group

The Faculty Development for Programs with Osteopathic Recognition Working Group is a 9-member working group of the UME-GME Continuum Initiative, chaired by Lisa R. Nash, DO, MS-HPEd. Other members of the working group include: Boyd Buser, DO; Karen T. Snider, DO; Lise McCoy, EdD; Alicia King, DO, MPH; Lorenzo Pence, DO; Michael Finley, DO; Natasha Bray, DO, MSEd; and Michael Rowane, DO, MS.

The Faculty Development for Programs with Osteopathic Recognition Working Group focuses on understanding the challenges and opportunities for faculty development in GME, specifically for programs with or seeking Osteopathic Recognition. Development of effective training and assessment resources for different faculty specialties to foster, maintain, and enhance ongoing education in the integration of Osteopathic Principles and Practice and in osteopathic competencies are a focus of this working group.

AACOM UME-GME Continuum Initiative

The UME-GME Continuum Initiative is led by a 13-member steering committee, chaired by John Kauffman, DO, Dean of Campbell University School of Osteopathic Medicine (CUSOM). The working groups of the UME-GME Continuum Initiative are focused on the following areas: supporting programs through the single GME accreditation system; faculty development for programs with osteopathic recognition; preparing colleges of osteopathic medicine, students, and programs, for the single residency match; examining future models for clinical education collaborations; and advancing scholarship and research is osteopathic medical education. Read more about AACOM’s UME-GME Continuum Initiative and the various projects and programs implemented by its working groups here.
