UNTHSC/TCOM Celebrates Its 50th Graduating Class of Osteopathic Physicians

On Monday, June 3, 1974, the legendary pathologist and osteopathic physician Dr. Otterbein Dressler gave the keynote address at the William Edrington Scott Theatre to 18 newly minted osteopathic physicians from the burgeoning University of North Texas Health Science Center-Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine (UNTHSC/TCOM).

Little did Dressler or those 18 physicians know they were laying the foundation for UNTHSC/TCOM, which celebrated its 50th graduating class on Tuesday at Dickies Arena. UNTHSC/TCOM’s Class of 2023 featured 214 graduates receiving their doctorate of osteopathic medicine. ATSU-SOMA’s Harm Reduction Club Advocating for Care Through Promotion of Harm Reduction Practices

ATSU-SOMA Harm Reduction Club

Founded in 2021 by A.T. Still University-School of Osteopathic Medicine in Arizona (ATSU-SOMA) second-year students Radhika Edpuganti, Rebekah Hwang, and Andrew Nelson, ATSU’s Harm Reduction Club aims to create a positive impact on the community through the implementation of harm reduction practices.

“I spent a lot of my pre-medical school years working at a federally qualified health center in downtown Portland. I was pretty embedded with the community that I ultimately wanted to serve and connect with, and that was in line with a lot of the mission ATSU-SOMA likes to uphold,” Nelson said of the club’s beginnings. ATSU-KCOM’s 2023 Commencement Introduces 156 New Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine

A.T. Still University of Health Sciences - Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine (ATSU-KCOM), the founding school of osteopathic medicine, marked the graduation of students from the class of 2023 with a commencement ceremony on May 20, 2023, in Kirksville, Missouri. Robert A. Cain, DO, president and CEO of AACOM, delivered the commencement address.

ATSU-KCOM awarded 156 students with their doctor of osteopathic medicine degrees, and 10 students graduated from ATSU-KCOM’s master of science in biomedical sciences program. Read more about the graduation and watch a recording of the ceremony.


Care and Comfort Kits Packed During VCOM-Virginia’s Spring Carnival

On May 19, 2023, Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine Virginia Campus (VCOM-Virginia) held its annual spring carnival, featuring snacks, music, pets, games and activities. Some of the activities, including the ever-popular Pie-a-Professor and Dunk-a-Professor games, required a donation in order to participate, with the funds going to support the activities of the VCOM-Virginia Student Government Association. The carnival also featured a care package station called "Operation Gratitude," where members of the VCOM-Virginia family packed care and comfort kits for military and first responders. Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine Louisiana Campus (VCOM-Louisiana) chapter of the American College of Osteopathic Emergency Physicians hosted a game night to play "GridlockED," a board game simulating an emergency room setting. Record Attendance at Third Annual CHSU-COM Research Day

California Health Sciences University College of Osteopathic Medicine (CHSU-COM) held its third annual Research Day on May 20, 2023. With the largest event to date, approximately 150 people were in attendance. The CHSU Research Day showcased the research and scholarly activities by students and faculty members. In addition, local researchers, clinicians, pharmacists, physician/pharmacist residents and faculty leading local Residency and Fellowship programs were invited to participate. ICOM Graduates 147 New Physicians

The Idaho College of Osteopathic Medicine (ICOM) celebrated the graduation of 147 new physicians on Saturday, May 19, 2023. After four years of study, ICOM faculty hooded the new osteopathic physicians and the college’s Class of 2023 was conferred the doctor of osteopathic medicine degree.

In a packed theater at the Morrison Center in Boise, Idaho, graduates gathered with family, friends, faculty and staff, to celebrate their transition into resident physicians, where they will train in their specialty of choice for at least the next three years.
