Heartland Telehealth Resource Center expands rural healthcare access through telehealth resources, partnerships and education.
Denna Wheeler
The Heartland Telehealth Resource Center (HTRC) is a multi-state effort focused on expanding access to healthcare for rural Americans through telehealth and telemedicine. The HTRC brings together a cross-disciplinary team of leaders and specialists representing Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma, including principal investigators, program managers, directors of virtual care and telehealth networks, communications specialists and outreach partners focused on topics ranging from billing and reimbursement to professional licensure. Under Wheeler's leadership in Oklahoma, the HTRC positions itself as a resource hub that offers education and training, technical assistance, and curated national resources intended to help rural providers and communities implement and sustain telehealth services.

The HTRC maintains a suite of programs and informational channels that reflect its mission. These include structured offerings such as the eSTART Assessment, an Education Series, a TeleHealth ECHO Series, and School-Based Programs, all designed to meet different practitioner and community needs in telehealth adoption. The center also distributes timely content through platforms such as the Telehealth Beat Newsletter, Telehealth Unmuted Podcast and an HTRC YouTube channel, ensuring that practitioners, administrators, and stakeholders can access practical guidance and updates. Communications and outreach are supported by dedicated staff roles, from program management to communications specialist and chief storyteller, enabling the HTRC to translate technical, policy and operational information into usable formats for diverse audiences.
