The Student Health & Wellness Nutrition Initiative integrates nutrition, fitness, mental health and student support at Rowan University.

"The Student Health & Wellness Nutrition Initiative," is a coordinated program within the Rowan-Virtua SOM Student Health & Wellness  to support mental and physical health resources. The Initiative builds on an integrated approach to student well-being that connects nutrition with mental health, fitness and accessible clinical services.

Students at Rowan-Virtua SOM have access to 24/7 emergency support and crisis counseling through campus and community hotlines, and the Initiative aligns nutrition education with these mental health supports, including TimelyCare and Uwill's teletherapy and on-demand counseling, so that dietary guidance can be offered in tandem with emotional and behavioral health interventions when appropriate. The Initiative leverages the Department of Psychiatry Outpatient Clinic and local partners such as Oaks Integrated Care to ensure that students needing psychiatric evaluation, medication management, or urgent behavioral health services can also receive coordinated nutritional assessment or referral. The Initiative also complements community-facing programs referenced in the school's resources, such as NJ Mental Health Cares and the Center for Family Services, by collaborating with these providers for screening, referral, and integrated supportive care when nutrition-related issues intersect with mood, stress, or other behavioral health needs.

By situating nutritional supports within a comprehensive student health ecosystem that already includes licensed doctoral-level psychologists, teletherapy platforms, crisis resources, outpatient psychiatry and community behavioral health partners, the Student Health & Wellness Nutrition Initiative aims to provide integrative, practical nutrition services tailored to the needs of medical students. The Initiative emphasizes coordination with existing services, accessible scheduling through campus systems, and the potential to embed nutrition content into wellness experiences and fitness programming offered monthly to encourage healthy lifestyles and to support students' mental and physical well-being throughout their medical education.
