Bridging Classroom and Community: Lessons from Santo Domingo

Medical students from the Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine (TouroCOM) Middletown and Montana campuses recently partnered with the organization Foundations for Peace to deliver healthcare to rural underserved communities in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic—an experience that reinforced TouroCOM’s mission to serve communities with limited access to care. Adeola Adeleke, OMS II, and Rihi Jain, OMS I, share their experience:
The medical mission, involving 19 students working alongside faculty members and other physicians, expanded our education beyond the classroom, strengthening our understanding of global health, cultural humility and the values that guide osteopathic medicine.

PCOM Generates Nearly $300M in Annual Economic Impact in Georgia
Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM) has contributed approximately $292.6 million in direct economic impact in Georgia in 2026, according to a recent report. Boosting business activity, job creation and state and local tax revenues across the state, PCOM Georgia and PCOM South Georgia are driving forces in medical education in the state, supporting more than 2,100 jobs and generating more than $14 million in tax revenue statewide.
The independent analysis, conducted by the consulting firm Tripp Umbach, measured the growth driven by PCOM Georgia and PCOM South Georgia’s teaching, research, workforce development, community partnerships and outreach programs across the state.

VCOM-Louisiana Students Complete Hands-On CERT Disaster Response Training

Second-year medical students at the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine Louisiana Campus (VCOM-Louisiana) recently took part in an immersive two-day Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training designed to build critical emergency preparedness skills. Students participated in active-shooter response, light search-and-rescue, fire safety, shelter operations and a mass-casualty simulation, preparing them to lead and serve during real-world crises. The experience also highlighted the importance of teamwork through collaboration with community partners, volunteers, faculty, staff and emergency response professionals.

KCU-COM Students Elevate Research Excellence at KCU Symposium

Students from the Kansas City University College of Osteopathic Medicine (KCU-COM) played a leading role in this year’s Research Symposium, earning top honors and contributing impactful research across a wide range of clinical and population health topics. Their projects explored critical areas such as Alzheimer’s disease, cancer biology, health equity and rare conditions, reflecting a strong commitment to advancing patient care through discovery.

VCOM-Carolinas Welcomes President of the International Military Sports Council

Colonel Nilton Gomes Rolim Filho, a Brazilian military leader and president of the International Military Sports Council (CISM), visited the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine Carolinas Campus (VCOM-Carolinas) to speak with students about international collaboration, military medicine and the role of sport in building unity across nations.
As he shared in his vision for CISM, the goal is to “strengthen peace and friendship among military personnel through sport,” highlighting the powerful connection between health, service and global cooperation.

VCOM-Virginia Alumnus Named to ACOFP Board of Governors
The Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine Virginia Campus (VCOM-Virginia) proudly congratulates alumnus Evan Bischoff, DO, ’24, on his selection to the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (ACOFP) 2026–2027 Board of Governors. He was elected April 15, 2026, during the ACOFP Congress of Delegates in Orlando, Florida. Dr. Bischoff is currently a Family Medicine resident at Henry Ford Genesys in Grand Blanc, Michigan, and previously served as a National Student Governor for ACOFP while at VCOM-Virginia.
