Curricular Offerings
The Valley COM curriculum is delivered through a 4-year clinical presentation curriculum model. In years 1 and 2, courses are intentionally integrated with group learning and experiential learning, while also allowing for time for self-directed learning. In years 3 and 4, while on clinical rotations, students will engage in weekly synchronous virtual didactic learning. This four-year curricular model provides a framework to build critical and clinical reasoning skills, effective communication and interprofessional teamwork skills, as well as professional identity development.
Experiential learning activities include high-fidelity mannikin based simulation, virtual and augmented reality anatomy, osteopathic medical skills labs, clinical skills training, standardized patient experiences, interprofessional education activities, and medical humanities.
Professional development is a curricular course aligned with weekly integrated cases and focuses on areas such as Lifestyle Medicine, public and community health, health systems sciences, visual and performing arts, and ethics and medical jurisprudence.
Additional Key Components of The Valley COM Curriculum:
- Curricular based structured preparation to support key milestones, including COMLEX Level 1 preparation, COMLEX Level 2 preparation, and residency readiness.
- Longitudinal research coursework with a required capstone project

Applicants who successfully pass the initial screening process will be invited to schedule and attend an Interview Day. Participation in Interview Day is mandatory for admission and serves as a two-way evaluation: The evaluation process assesses whether the applicant is a strong fit for The Valley College of Osteopathic Medicine, while the applicant has the opportunity to determine if The Valley COM aligns with their goals and values.
The Admissions Committee conducts a holistic review of each applicant, considering academic preparation, achievements, MCAT performance, personal statement, letters of recommendation, and experiences in health care, research, and community service.
Beyond academic metrics, we prioritize attributes that predict success in medical education and practice—such as compassion, strong communication skills, teamwork, leadership, professionalism, integrity, and a commitment to lifelong learning. We value evidence of resilience, a dedication to professional goals, and a genuine interest in serving communities.
