Advocacy Osteopathic Health Policy Fellowship

From November 4-7, Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine (DMU-COM) and the Iowa State Capitol served as the backdrop for the second in-person meeting of the Osteopathic Health Policy Fellowship class of 2023. The theme of the session focused on the breadth and nuances of state approaches to policy and leadership through sessions including:

  • State’s role in Medicaid
  • Working with the governor’s office on policy priorities
  • Policy to strengthen state financial support of educational programs
  • Diversity, equity, and inclusion: A vision of all leaders
  • Leading an institution’s policy priorities
  • Collaborating with outside organizations on institutional policy engagement
  • Engagement strategies with the media
  • Being a key strategist for your advocacy agenda
  • Understanding your leadership style

The Fellows and Co-Directors thank DMU-COM for their exceptional hospitality, from the welcome reception on our arrival day and throughout the rest of the week, to the connections they made with topic experts and facilities, all while making us feel at home in Iowa. We extend special gratitude to Dean Steven Halm, DO, and Ms. Sue Huppert, chief external and governmental affairs officer at DMU-COM for going above and beyond in supporting this high value session.
