Updates Announced for NIH Loan Repayment Programs

- On January 25, 2023, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced updates to the existing regulation for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Loan Repayment Programs (LRPs), with an effective date of February 24, 2023.
- The NIH is increasing the annual loan repayment amount from a maximum of $35,000 to a maximum of $50,000. The LRPs will be consolidated into two programs, the Intramural LRP for NIH researchers and the Extramural LRP for non-NIH researchers, with the authority for administering the LRPs under the jurisdiction of the Director of the NIH.
