UNTHSC/TCOM’s Chapter of the Texas Medical Association Named the 2023 Chapter of the Year

The University of North Texas Health Science Center-Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine (UNTHSC/TCOM) chapter of the Texas Medical Association Medical Student Section (TMA-MSS) was selected as the 2023 Chapter of the Year by the organization. UNTHSC/TCOM was honored with the TMA-MSS 2023 Chapter of the Year Award at the TEXPAC conference held in Fort Worth, Texas.
“I was thrilled when I received word that our chapter had been awarded a Chapter of the Year,” said second-year student and chapter president, Jack Shope. “From day one, our members strived to bring awareness to sociopolitical issues impacting medical education and healthcare, pursued advocacy at both the state and national level and engaged in service that has certainly made a significant impact on the Fort Worth community.” Read more about the award and what it means for UNTHSC/TCOM.
CHSU-COM’s Cori DeLisi Receives Scholarship for Service to LGBTQIA+ Community

While nearing completion of her second year at the California Health Sciences University College of Osteopathic Medicine (CHSU-COM), Cori DeLisi found out she earned a $6,000 graduate student scholarship from the eQuality Scholarship Collaborative. DeLisi is one of only four medical students to receive this prestigious scholarship award.
According to their website, the eQuality Scholarship Collaborative awards scholarships to honor and encourage California students for their service to the LGBTQIA+ community. The eQuality Scholarship Collaborative has fostered student leadership for more than 30 years. In 2022, their cumulative scholarship awards surpassed $1,800,000. WVSOM Alumna Named Cabinet Secretary of West Virginia Department of Health
Sherri Young, DO, a West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine (WVSOM) Class of 2003 alumna, was named cabinet secretary of the newly formed West Virginia Department of Health by the state’s governor. Dr. Young will oversee the Bureau for Public Health, Office of Emergency Medical Services, Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, Center for Threat Preparedness, Health Care Authority, Office of Inspector General and Human Rights Commission. Nearly 300 Healthcare Providers Graduate from PCOM Georgia

Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine Georgia Campus (PCOM Georgia) held its annual commencement ceremony on May 23, 2023, graduating 283 physicians, pharmacists, physical therapists, physician assistants, biomedical scientists and medical laboratory scientists.
Jay S. Feldstein, DO ’81, president and CEO of PCOM, addressed the graduates. He said, “As you leave here today, you are poised to lead in a world of continuous change. You are empowered to effect change and to grow from it.” Read more about the graduation ceremony or watch a recording.
VCOM-Louisiana Students Help Community Members Receive Free Cancer Screening

The Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine Louisiana Campus (VCOM-Louisiana) Volunteer Committee partnered with the Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center during their Live Well Delta event in downtown Monroe, Louisiana. VCOM-Louisiana students helped register more than 140 community members to receive free cancer screenings, with 49 percent of participants being uninsured and 46 percent never before receiving screenings. VCOM-Auburn Holds Benefit Pickleball Tournament

Via Wellness and Sports Medicine held an inaugural Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine Auburn Campus (VCOM-Auburn) Pickleball tournament for students, faculty and staff. The tournament was held to raise money for The Exceptional Foundation, a nonprofit organization established to serve individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
