AOGME RFC Alumni: Where Are They Now? Tim Lemaire, DO, MPH

Tim Lemaire, DO, MPH is a family medicine physician at the Norton Sound Health Corporation in one of the most remote and challenging environments in the United States. Dr. Lemaire's journey takes him to Nome, Alaska, a part of Western Alaska that is home to approximately 10,000 people, spread across 15 Alaskan native villages. Five of these communities lack access to piped water and sewer systems in their homes, underscoring the region's rural and underserved status. Yet, thanks to the Alaskan Native Tribal Health System, Dr. Lemaire and his fellow healthcare providers work diligently to ensure that access to care and services remains within reach.

Dr. Lemaire is a full spectrum osteopathic family medicine physician working in both inpatient and outpatient medicine, the emergency department, and village clinic. His current roles include Director of Inpatient Services, Employee Health and Infection Control. He also oversees the tuberculosis program and public health education. Much of his time is occupied by his fulfilling employment duties, including his participation in the Norton Sound COVID-19 Incident Command Team.

Beyond his clinical work, Dr. Lemaire is engaged in academic medicine and education. He serves as an adjunct faculty member for the University of Washington School of Medicine and Tulane University School of Medicine. Dr. Lemaire also trains residents from the Alaska Family Medicine Residency during their PGY2 and PGY3 years and Norton Sound Hospital hosts 3rd and 4th-year medical students year-round.  

Dr. Lemaire is a founding member of the AOGME Resident Fellow Council (RFC) contributing to the development of its constitution and by-laws and serving as the national health policy chair. While in medical school at A.T. Still University School of Osteopathic Medicine Arizona, Dr. Lemaire served as a student government president and the national first vice chair of the AACOM Council of Osteopathic Student Government Presidents (COSGP). During his residency and practice, he also actively engaged in the AOA Bureau of Emerging Leaders. His influence also extended to the boards of the Alaska Osteopathic Medical Association and the Alaska Academy of Family Physicians, where he served as the resident board member. Additionally, he stepped into the role of Chief Resident for the Alaska Family Medicine Residency. 

 

Dr. Lemaire maintains an admirable work-life balance. He values his colleagues as close friends, enjoys outdoor activities, supports his wife's dog mushing, and cherishes quality time with his 16 Alaskan Huskies. He believes that there is no better place to practice medicine than Alaska. Dr. Lemaire's dedication, leadership, and commitment to the community serve as a continual source of inspiration in Nome, Alaska.
