- In an effort to strengthen reporting requirements related to Section 117 of the HEA and curb contracts with certain foreign countries, the House introduced and passed the bipartisan Defending Education Transparency and Ending Rogue Regimes Engaging in Nefarious Transactions (DETERRENT) Act (H.R.5933) on December 6, 2023 by a vote of 246-170.
- Our coalition partner, the American Council on Education has compiled a summary of the DETERRENT Act, raising concerns about the potential burden of increased reporting for higher education institutions.
