“Today, the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine, our member colleges and students join the entire medical community in mourning the passing of William G. Anderson, DO, a trailblazing physician, educator and courageous civil rights leader whose extraordinary life helped transform both medicine and our nation. Dr. Anderson was an icon of civil and human rights who challenged our country and our profession to look closely at itself. As the first Black president of the American Osteopathic Association and a leader of the historic Albany Movement, Dr. Anderson broke barriers while advancing dignity, justice and opportunity for generations to come. AACOM is forever grateful for the time Dr. Anderson gave back to our students over the years. His legacy of service, leadership and unwavering commitment to equity will continue to inspire the osteopathic medical community and all who work toward a more just and inclusive society.”
