Patricia S. Sexton, MS, DHEd, will assume the role of planning committee chair for Educating Leaders 2027. Due to unforeseen scheduling constraints, David Kuo, DO, who was previously announced as the 2027 chair, will instead chair Educating Leaders 2028 in San Diego, California.

With nearly four decades of experience in medical education, Dr. Sexton has contributed extensively to advancing professional identity formation, educational innovation, humanism and compassionate patient care within osteopathic medicine. She currently serves as associate dean for medical education and professor in the Department of Family Medicine at A.T. Still University Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Dr. Sexton previously chaired Educating Leaders 2020, providing critical leadership as the conference transitioned from an in-person to an all-virtual format at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Working alongside the conference planning team, she helped rapidly reimagine programming and successfully navigate an unprecedented moment for the medical education community.

A Fellow of the National Academy of Osteopathic Medical Educators, Dr. Sexton has received numerous honors, including the AACOM Innovation Award, the Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award and the Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons Medallion Award. She has authored publications in medical education and biomedical science and has served as an invited speaker and consultant throughout the United States and internationally.

In addition to her academic leadership, Dr. Sexton serves on the Board of Trustees of the Arnold P. Gold Foundation. Her work continues to advance humanistic, learner-centered medical education and the development of physicians who lead with professionalism, empathy and integrity.

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Sexton on her appointment. We look forward to her vision and leadership as we prepare for Educating Leaders 2027 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
