Osteopathic Medical Colleges Research Reports Trends Tuition and Fees

Forty-two private and seven public colleges of osteopathic medicine (COMs) reported data for the 2022-23 Cost of Attendance (COA) Report.  Since the 2021-22 academic year, three COMs – two private and one public – reported a decrease in COA while two public COMs reported no change in COA.  Fifteen COMs – 12 private and three public – reported a decrease in average graduate indebtedness since academic year 2020-21; five COMs – four private and one public COM – reported no change in graduate indebtedness between academic years 2021-22 and 2022-23.

The average total COA for private COMs is $352,575, an increase of $15,431 (4.6%) since the 2021-22 COA Report; the annual average COA for private COMs is $88,144, an increase of $3,858 (4.6%).  The average total COA for public COMs is $287,334, an increase of $5,388 (1.9%) since the 2021-22 COA Report; the annual average COA is $71,833, an increase of $1,346 (1.9%) since the 2021-22 COA Report.  Combined, the average total COA for private and public COMs is $343,029, an increase of $15,052 (4.6%) since the 2021-22 COA Report; the annual average COA for public and private COMs is $85,757, an increase of $3,763 (4.6%) since the 2021-22 COA Report.

The average total COA gap between private and public COMs is $65,241 (20.4%), a $10,043 (18.2%) increase since the 2021-22 COA Report.  The annual COA gap between private and public COMs is $16,311 (20.4%), an increase of $2,512 or (18.2%).
