Appointment strengthens osteopathic medicine’s voice in future policy recommendations
IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Bethesda, MD) – Today, the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM) applauds the appointment of Lisa Nash, DO, MS-HPEd, to the Health Resources and Services Administration’s Advisory Committee on Training in Primary Care Medicine and Dentistry (ACTPCMD). Nominated by AACOM, Dr. Nash will serve a three-year term beginning in March. She joins Brookshield Laurent, DO, as the second osteopathic physician on the committee. Dr. Laurent, also nominated by AACOM, acts as the committee’s vice-chair.
“We are very proud of Dr. Nash and look forward to the value her appointment will bring to the ACTPCMD,” said AACOM President and CEO Robert A. Cain, DO. “Dr. Nash’s 30 years of leadership and expertise in graduate medical education, rural medicine and primary care obstetrics will be invaluable to the committee as it works to advance primary care policy recommendations. We are grateful to the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for her selection, and for recognizing osteopathic medicine’s growing role in educating future physicians, the majority of whom go on to practice primary care.”
The ACTPCMD provides advice and recommendations to the HHS Secretary concerning policy and program development and other matters of significance regarding medicine and dentistry. Committee members develop and implement performance measures and recommend funding levels for certain federal programs. The committee comprises 14 members representing a broad spectrum of stakeholders in the medical and dental communities.
“I am honored to receive this appointment and have the opportunity to represent osteopathic medicine and family medicine on this important committee,” said Dr. Nash. “I look forward to working with the members of the committee to provide recommendations that will benefit primary care and physicians across our profession. I’m very grateful to AACOM and UNTHSC leadership for supporting my nomination to this position.”
Dr. Nash is the interim dean at the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine at The University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth (UNTHSC/TCOM). Her work has been nationally recognized, most recently in 2024, with the Assembly of Osteopathic Graduate Medical Educators (AOGME) Special Lifetime Achievement Award. This award reflects AOGME’s highest honor and is only granted when appropriate candidates are nominated. Among her many other professional affiliations, Dr. Nash serves as a member of AACOM’s UME-GME Task Force.
