Applicants Matriculants Trends

This report on applicants and matriculants uses data from the AACOMAS application to summarize categories and geographic regions. Key findings from 2024 include:

HRSA Category

  • English is not my primary language:
    • 2,245 applicants (10.2%), 892 matriculants (9.3%)
  • I participated in an academic enrichment program funded in whole or in part by the Health Careers Opportunity Program.
    • 269 applicants (1.2%), 85 matriculants (0.9%)
  • Your parent's family income falls within the table's guidelines and you are considered to have met the criteria for economically disadvantaged.
    • 4,034 applicants (18.2%), 1,462 matriculants (15.2%)
  • I am from a family that receives public assistance (e.g., Aid to Families with Dependent Children, food stamps, Medicaid, public housing) or I receive public assistance.
    • 3,620 applicants (16.4%), 1,282 matriculants (13.3%)
  • I am from a school district where 50% or fewer graduates go to college or where college education is not encouraged:
    • 2,044 applicants (9.2%), 810 matriculants (8.4%)
  • I am the first generation in my family to attend college (neither my mother nor my father attended college).
    • 3,948 applicants (17.9%), 1,430 matriculants (14.8%)
  • I am from a family that lives in an area that is designated as a Health Professional Shortage Area, or a Medically Undeserved Area.
    • 4,562 applicants (20.6%), 1,835 matriculants (19.1%)
  • I am a high-school drop-out who received AHS diploma or GED.
    • 72 applicants (0.3%), 28 matriculants (0.3%)
  • I graduated from a high school from which a low percentage of seniors received a high school diploma.
    • 805 applicants (3.6%), 281 matriculants (2.9%)

HRSA Region

  • Urban (1,000,000 population):
    • 2,746 applicants (12.4%), 1,141 matriculants (11.9%)
  • Large City (100,000 to 1,000,000 population):
    • 4,823 applicants (21.8%), 2,122 matriculants (22.1%)
  • Mid-Size City (50,000 to 99,999 population):
    • 4,092 applicants (18.5%), 1,757 matriculants (18.3%)
  • Large Town (10,000 to 49,999 population):
    • 5,993 applicants (27.1%), 2,655 matriculants (27.6%)
  • Small Town (2,500 to 9,999 population):
    • 3,290 applicants (14.9%), 1,449 matriculants (15.1%)
  • Isolated Rural (<2,500 population):
    • 944 applicants (4.3%), 401 matriculants (4.2%)
  • Do Not Wish to Report:
    • 198 applicants (0.9%), 87 matriculants (0.9%)
